A disaster can interrupt children’s education long after the immediate emergency has passed. During the Karail Slum fire, many families lost their homes and personal belongings, including children’s schoolbooks, notebooks, bags, stationery, and other learning materials. For children from low-income households, replacing these items can be difficult and may increase the risk of prolonged absence from school.
Understanding the importance of educational continuity, Youth Prochesta Foundation arranged educational equipment support for children affected by the fire. The initiative focused on providing essential learning materials, including notebooks, pens, and school kits, to help students continue their education despite the disruption caused by the disaster.
The Foundation recognized that restoring access to education is an important part of humanitarian recovery. While food, shelter, and medical assistance are immediate priorities, children also need opportunities to return to learning, maintain their daily routines, and continue developing their knowledge and skills.
By providing basic educational supplies, Prochesta Foundation aimed to reduce the financial burden on affected families and help children resume their studies. Access to these materials can make it easier for students to participate in classroom activities and remain connected to their educational environment.
The initiative was guided by Child Protection and Safeguarding principles, with attention to children’s dignity, safety, and educational needs. It also reflects the Foundation’s belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances or experience of disaster.
Through this intervention, Prochesta Foundation sought to protect children’s learning opportunities and support a more inclusive recovery process. The activity contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting access to essential educational resources and helping vulnerable children continue their learning journey.
