Urban Oasis: Building Climate-Resilient Public Spaces in Dhaka

Urban Oasis is an innovative climate adaptation and community resilience initiative by Youth Prochesta Foundation, designed to address extreme urban heat, air pollution, and livelihood vulnerability in Dhaka. The project introduces solar-powered community cooling stations that provide shade, mist cooling, filtered water, greenery, and safer public spaces for vulnerable urban populations.

Beyond public cooling, Urban Oasis is designed as a social business and livelihood resilience platform that supports street hawkers, rickshaw pullers, informal workers, pedestrians, students, and climate-vulnerable communities who are directly exposed to extreme heat during daily life and work.

The initiative combines renewable energy, public health, urban sustainability, and community-based economic resilience through solar-powered misting systems, shaded rest areas, greenery, climate awareness messaging, and ethical sponsorship models. Revenue generated through sponsorship and branding is planned to be reinvested into vulnerable communities through livelihood support, vocational training, women empowerment initiatives, education support, and small-scale income generation programs. 2

Urban Oasis reflects Youth Prochesta Foundation’s vision of building a greener, cooler, and more resilient Dhaka by transforming public spaces into people-centered climate resilience hubs that protect both human wellbeing and urban livelihoods.
