Wheelchair Distribution: Upholding Inclusion and Mobility Rights

November 4, 2026

During a disaster, people with physical disabilities, serious injuries, and mobility limitations often face additional challenges. The Karail Slum fire created difficult living conditions for affected residents, particularly those who were injured and could no longer move independently. Access to safe transportation, medical services, temporary shelters, and daily necessities became even more challenging for these individuals.

Recognizing these needs, Youth Prochesta Foundation arranged and distributed six wheelchairs to six fire-affected individuals who required mobility support. The recipients included people between the ages of 9 and 56. They had sustained injuries or experienced mobility difficulties associated with the Karail fire tragedy.

The wheelchair distribution was intended to help recipients move more safely and independently, access essential services, and manage everyday activities with greater ease. For individuals recovering from injuries, a wheelchair can provide practical support in reaching healthcare facilities, moving around temporary living spaces, and participating in family and community life.

Prochesta Foundation considered the specific mobility needs of affected individuals when arranging this support. The initiative also highlighted an important aspect of emergency response: humanitarian assistance must not overlook people who face additional barriers because of age, disability, or injury.

By providing six wheelchairs, the Foundation took a practical step toward making post-disaster support more inclusive. The initiative was guided by principles of dignity, accessibility, equal opportunity, and disability inclusion.

This activity contributes to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by supporting people facing mobility-related disadvantages, and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by helping injured individuals access essential services and improve their daily mobility.
