International Youth Day 2026: Youth Leading the Journey Towards a Sustainable Dhaka

Every year on 12 August, the world celebrates International Youth Day to recognize the power, potential, and contributions of young people in building a more peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable future.

International Youth Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999, following the recommendation of the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, held in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1998. The first official observance took place on 12 August 2000. Since then, the day has become a global platform to promote youth participation, highlight youth-related issues, and celebrate the vital role of young people in achieving sustainable development.

The theme for International Youth Day 2026, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” reminds us that although young people live in different social, economic, and cultural realities, they share the same hopes for a better future quality education, equal opportunities, decent work, climate resilience, peace, and sustainable development. The United Nations continues to encourage governments, organizations, and communities to invest in young people as key partners in creating lasting positive change.

At Youth Prochesta Foundation of Bangladesh, we believe that young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow they are the changemakers of today.

For more than a decade, our volunteers have been working across Bangladesh to improve lives through humanitarian response, disaster management, education, blood donation, food assistance, environmental conservation, and climate action. Through initiatives such as ReWET, Jheel Krishi, Urban Oasis, and the Dhaka Community Network, our volunteers are helping communities become more resilient while promoting a greener, safer, and more sustainable Dhaka.

Our mission extends beyond implementing projects. We are committed to developing a generation of compassionate, skilled, environmentally conscious, and socially responsible young leaders who will contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and creating long-term positive impact for society.

On this International Youth Day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to every volunteer who has dedicated their time, energy, knowledge, and compassion to serving humanity. Every humanitarian action, every community initiative, and every volunteer contribution brings us one step closer to building a stronger, more resilient, and more sustainable Bangladesh.

Together, let us empower young people, strengthen communities, and continue building a Sustainable Dhaka and a Sustainable Bangladesh for present and future generations.
